28 - 31 of May 2009, Akniste, Latvia

The needs, possibilities, preferences and limitations of seniors in extending ICT use to improving the quality of life - personal development, education, filling social and everyday needs - in various countries

The second International meeting of the Project partners in Akniste was held with an aim to evaluate the achievements within the project during Year 1 and to state the things to be improved and to favour better understanding of the diversity of Europe by going deeper into the Latvian history and its influence on the culture and traditions, the present economic situation in the country.

The meeting was attended by 8 foreign - 6 Polish and 2 Swedish - and 10 local Project participants. The Swedish coordinator Claes could not be present due to health problems.

The Project issues were discussed during 2 sessions. The first session was devoted to getting acquainted with each other both on individual and organization level. The presence of the learners was very important as they could feel being part and parcel of the whole mechanism - planning, arranging, discussing, comparing and sharing. After the presentations made by the Project partners it was clear that the existing diversity in the partner organizations actually makes the Project idea more interesting and meaningful on condition that the Project aims serve to the benefit of the local community.

During the second session the Project coordinators discussed problematic administration issues, the ways of comparing the needs, possibilities, preferences and limitations of seniors in extending ICT use in the process of education in the partner countries, updating and using the website and the tasks for Year 2. The third International meeting will be held in Sweden after June 15 in 2009.

According to the program of the meeting, the Polish and Swedish partners had their first impressions about Latvia after spending a few hours in Old Riga. Bunches of wild spring flowers were laid at the Monument to Freedom - the symbol of Latvia and its people. A walk through the parks of Old Riga contained both cultural and historic evidence. The experience in the restaurant "Lido" gave an insight both into the modern architecture having strong historical roots and the Latvian cuisine with a variety of healthy products. The project partners could have a complete picture of Latvia as they spent 2 days in a completely different part of Latvia - a distant rural boarder area experiencing different human, cultural and purely economic values. It was contact with the organization members and learners in the common cultural activities and tracing the influence of the Polish and Swedish times in the 16-17th centuries still alive in the present day Latvia, taking part in the Cultural events of the town and visiting some institutions in Akniste that helped the partners to see the existing similarities and differences in our countries and make their own opinion about the things. It was learning by seeing and experiencing.

3-6 of September 2008 Krakow, Poland

The first International meeting - getting to know each other and planning

The first International project meeting took place in Krakow, Poland at the beginning of September. The main goal of the meeting was to get to know each other, make new friends and to launch the project. We discussed such matters as communication, sharing tasks and planning all the project activities. We work together very well and by the end of the project all major the matters were resolved. The weather was unusually good and warm so our friends from Sweden and Latvia were able to enjoy the beauty of Krakow. What a pity that the Swedes had to leave early - but they prepared a nice slide show.
